I thought I could convert them to a file the M can read.As Vladimir explained, M cannot read the wavetable data from Microwave, which is based on "pointers" wave control tables and "data" the waves. The readme suggests, they are the Prophet VS waves in two Userwavetables in SysEx format. In that Zip-file are among many other sounds for MW1 also VS1.syx and VS2.syx. Indeed the rackmount version (the K1r) doesn't even have a joystick. I suppose people assume that the K1 is a vector synthesis machine because it had a joystick which allowed real-time cross-fading between the four sources, but that was just a performance gimmick: in real vector synthesizers, the joystick was used to *program* the vector envelope. But there's no programmable 2D vector wave envelope of any kind. It's a plane-jane 4-source rompler, much like its big brother, the K4, and each source can have its own DADSR envelope, typical of romplers of the time (think Roland D-50, D-10, D-110, etc.). Despite its joystick, the Kawai K1/K1m/K1r is not a vector synthesizer. These are definitely vector synthesis machines, though one axis is two FM synths and the other axis is two PCM romplers. This has also been called "Vector Synths" and Dave Smith designed a few of the early Yamaha SY series (22 and 33 I think) that were labeled as Vector.Dave Smith may have worked on the SY-22 and TG-33 I believe. The Prophet VS, Kawai K1, Korg Wavestation (and their new Wavestate) have single-cycle digital waveforms that can all be mixed together, and that mix of the four waves is sequenced. I have most of the raw Ensoniq Transwaves now and will be pushing them into the M as soon as I get it. I'd love to import VS waves, but the question becomes how to import them all into a Wave Table so that sweeping through the various waves sounds good (or bad or dischordant or whatever you want it to). This is the technique used in the PPG Wave, Waldorf Microwaves, many Ensoniq synths and samplers, and the new Korg ModWave. In Wave Table there's no simultaneous mixing of the waves, it's all about selecting one active wave from a set for a given time slice. Wave Table synthesis is one long multi-cycle digital wave where one segment is played at a time but the synthesizer can "sweep" through the different waves in the wave table - in other words the position in the wavetable is sequenced. This has also been called "Vector Synthesis" and in addition to the VS (V for Vector) Dave Smith designed a few of the early Yamaha SY series (22 and 33 I think) that were labeled as Vector. Perhaps something like sideband filtered versions of a rich wave? Always keeping upper harmonics in there for the SSMs to chew on but perhaps thinning out/removing lower harmonics? You might be confusing Wave Sequencing with Wave Tables. So I'm guessing there are ways of faking a whole wavetable of alternate waves from one single wave? Like one could make edited versions of that one wave to step through from the M's engine? Prophet VS tones interest me the most, Kawai K1 also!
